Web Summit จัดงานสัมมนาในภายทวีป แต่งานใหญ่ประจำปีคือ Web Summit Europe ที่เมืองลิสบอน ประเทศโปรตุเกส งานปีนี้จัดขึ้น 13-16 พฤศจิกายน 2023

หลังความขัดแย้งระหว่างอิสราเอลกับฮามาสรอบใหม่ปะทุขึ้นมา Cosgrave ซึ่งเป็นชาวไอร์แลนด์ ออกมาวิจารณ์ฝ่ายอิสราเอลว่าก่อ “อาชญากรรมสงคราม” และกดไลค์ข้อความทวีตของฝ่ายสนับสนุนฮามาสหลายอัน ทำให้กลุ่มสตาร์ตอัพสัญชาติอิสราเอลไม่พอใจ และทยอยถอนตัวจากการเข้าร่วม Web Summit กัน รวมถึงส่งผลไปยังคนดังในแวดวงสตาร์ตอัพประเทศอื่นๆ ด้วย ตัวอย่างคนดังที่ถอนตัวคือ Garry Tan ซีอีโอของ Y Combinator โครงการบ่มเพาะสตาร์ตอัพชื่อดังของสหรัฐ

ปัญหาของ Web Summit ยังลุกลามไปถึงบริษัทยักษ์ใหญ่อย่าง Meta, Google, Amazon, Stripe, Intel, Siemens ที่ถอนตัวจากการเข้าร่วมงาน (แม้ Google เป็นสปอนเซอร์ใหญ่ของงานก็ตาม)

ส่วน Cosgrave ประกาศขอโทษบนเว็บไซต์ Web Summit ยอมรับว่าใช้คำพูดผิดไปจนกระทบจิตใจของคนอิสราเอล โดยใจจริงของเขาต้องการสันติภาพและเห็นใจทั้งสองฝ่าย
