Chrome, Safari/WebKit, Firefox ประกาศร่วมกันพัฒนาเบนช์มาร์ควัดประสิทธิภาพของเบราว์เซอร์ Speedometer เวอร์ชัน 3 เพื่อเบนช์มาร์คให้สะท้อนการใช้งานของผู้ใช้จริงมากขึ้น

Speedometer เป็นเบนช์มาร์คที่เริ่มพัฒนาโดยทีม WebKit แต่ภายหลังก็ได้รับความนิยมใช้ทดสอบกับเบราว์เซอร์ตัวอื่นด้วย เวอร์ชันล่าสุดในปัจจุบันคือ 2.1 รูปแบบการทำงานคือสร้างเว็บแอพ TodoMVC ที่มีการเรียกใช้ DOM API ของเบราว์เซอร์ผ่าน ECMAScript 5/6 รวมถึงเฟรมเวิร์ค JavaScript ยอดนิยมหลายตัว เช่น Vue.js, jQuery, React, Ember เพื่อจำลองสถานการณ์เสมือนเป็นการใช้งานของผู้ใช้ที่พบในโลกจริงๆ

ตอนนี้ยังไม่มีข้อมูลว่า Speedometer 3.0 จะมีแนวทางอย่างไร แต่ผู้พัฒนาเบราว์เซอร์ทั้ง 3 ค่ายบอกว่าจะแชร์ข้อมูลระหว่างกันให้มากขึ้น และมีโมเดลการดูแลโครงการร่วมกัน
